ANGELA BURNS MEMORIAL
10K:
Last Sunday morning over 220 people took part in the 3rd
annual Angela Burns Memorial 10k Fun Run/Walk, which was kindly sponsored by
Harvey Travel, Gladstone St. Ferrybank GAA club would like to thank Sean Power
of Harvey Travel for the kind and generous sponsorship of the race.
With weather conditions ideal for all, Brian Murphy from
Carrick AC was the overall winner for the third consecutive year, 2nd
man home was Craig O' Brien, with Brian Cuddihy in 3rd place. The 1st
Lady home was Evelyn Haran, with Nicola Harte in 2nd place. Brian
and Evelyn received their fantastic trophies after the race. In the juvenile
race, Jay Bagge was an impressive winner, with Aine O' Callaghan the 1st
girl home. All the Juvenile racers received Angela Burns medals and enjoyed the
Choclate Moojou milk that was kindly supplied by Glanbia after their run.
Once again a huge thanks to the people for coming along and
enjoyed this day, it was great to see so many smiles on their faces coming
back, sharing their stories on how they fared during the race, and tucking into
the fine spread of food that was laid on by the Ladies committee, which received
excellent compliments.
Thanks to Pat O' Meara for organising the stewarding in a
professional manner, which also received positive comments. Also, many thanks
to all the helpers on the day; Fintan Walsh for his excellent MC during before
and during the race, Kieran O' Mahoney from Total Timing for his professional
work leading up to the big day, Jim Farrell for the use of the car park
facilities in the shopping centre and Fiona Kavanagh & Penny Horan for the
Water stations. Also to the people who contributed the food on the day, Rosie
Joyce for the physio, relieving the aches and pains from the runners, and
Rachel Beckett for doing the warm up, putting the runners/walkers to their
paces prior to the start.
INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Ferrybank Intermediate hurlers begin their 2017 Gerry
Kennedy Crash repairs sponsored championship campaign this coming Saturday
April 29th at 3:45pm Walsh Park where they will face Erin’s Own. A
stern test awaits the side, so let’s hope the lads can open up with a win. Your
support will be welcomed on the day.
INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:
Our Intermediate Camogie side made the trip to play An Rinn
last Sunday evening and despite leading by two points entering the closing minutes;
the homeside staged a late late show with a flurry of scores, and took the
points on offer.
COUNTY DUTY:
Best of luck to Neil O’ Sullivan and the Waterford U17
hurlers in tomorrow’s (Tuesday April 25th) Munster Final against Cork in Fraher Field, Dungarvan;
throw-in is at 7pm.
Hard luck to Marty Freeman (selector) and the Waterford
Minor Footballers that were defeated by Clare in the Munster Minor Football
championship last Wednesday night in Ennis.
UNDER 14 FOOTBALL:
No joy for the Under 14 Footballers last Saturday afternoon
as they went down to a bigger Clan Na Gael side. They lads competed well for
the opening half, and were very much in the game, but as the second-half went
on, Clan Na Gael got on top, and ran out clear winners. Next up for the lads is
a home game v St. Mary’s this coming Wednesday April 26th at 6:45pm.
UNDER 12 HURLING:
A good win for the Under 12 hurlers last Friday night in the
City League when they defeated De La Salle. Ferrybank were quick out of the
traps with some fine points, and scored some excellent goals during the game,
getting the rewards for the hard work they have put in. Well done lads.
FÉILE HURLING:
Our Féile hurlers are back in action this coming Thursday
night April 27th with a home game against Bricky Rangers at 6:45pm.
UNDER 11 HURLING:
Our Under 11 hurlers are back in City League action this
coming Friday night with a trip away to Ballygunner at 6:30pm.
UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:
Our Under 13 Footballers play away to Roanmore this coming
Saturday April 29th at 3pm.
UNDER 16 FOOTBALL:
Our Under 16 Footballers play away to St. Mary’s away on
Monday 1st May at 3pm.
