JUNIOR HURLING:
Ferrybank’s opening game in the John J Murphy sponsored
hurling competition, saw the lads entertain St. Molleran’s last Monday night,
and following an enjoyable game of hurling saw the Carrickbeg men emerge
winners on a scoreline of 2-20 2-17.
Opening points from Philly Blake and Alex Power saw Ferrybank
get off to a good start, but St. Molleran’s replied strongly with six
unanswered points from play. Points from Tony Heffernan and Alex Power saw
Ferrybank close the gap, and midway through the opening half, a long range
Chris Hoban free, found its way to Tony Heffernan who planted the sliothar to
the back of the net. St. Molleran’s looked dangerous in attack and they kept
putting over points to hold onto the lead, but Ciaran Doyle’s accuracy with
five points ensured it was all square at the break.
The second-half was nip and tuck with nothing between the
sides with Alex Kinsella, Philly Blake, Greg Murphy and Ciaran Doyle scoring
good points, keeping Ferrybank level. However, in the final ten minutes,
Molleran’s scored a goal, opening up a three point lead, but that was quickly
wiped out, when Philly Blake went on a fantastic solo run, and shot low into
the corner of the net for a super goal to level it up.
With the final whistle looming, St. Molleran’s won a free
and from it the ball sailed all the way into the net. Tried as they did,
Ferrybank couldn’t get a goal to get a share of the spoils. Despite this
defeat, Ferrybank can take a lot of positives from this game, and hopefully
this game can bring them on in the Championship.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Our first game in the John J Murphy sponsored competition
saw the lads make the trip to play Championship favourites Ballyduff Lower.
The home side were quickly out of the blocks, and it took Ferrybank
20 minutes to get into the pace of the game, but going into the half time
break, Ballyduff Lower led by 2-06 to 1-05, with Ferrybank missing a penalty.
The second-half was similar to the first-half, but a Cormac
Heffernan goal brought us right back into the game, but a third Ballyduff goal
ensured the home side pulled away for a comfortable win on a scoreline of 3-16
to 2-07.
