Pride of place this week goes to the Under 15 hurlers who were crowned Eastern Division 3 City League champions last Saturday afternoon. The lads defeated a gallant Ballygunner side in Kill on a scoreline of 6-05 to 4-07.
With
the breeze in the opening half, Ferrybank made a good start with goals from
John Collins and Ruaidhri McGarrity; these two lads were causing havoc in the
Ballygunner defence all afternoon. With the Ferrybank defence holding firm, and
setting up attacks resulting in points, Ferrybank held a 2-05 to 0-4 lead at
the break.
Against
the breeze in the second-half, Ferrybank scored crucial goals to open a big
lead with Shane Oates netting a brace, and also Ruaidhri and John adding one
each. Slowly, Ballygunner got back into the game with a couple of goals, but
Ferrybank lead by the outstanding Glen Power at full back, Ola Akjwende in
midfield and James O' Meara at wing back, steadied the ship. Ferrybank held on to
record a fully deserved win.
This
was a superb team performance from the team, with everyone playing their part
in this win and it was a fitting tribute to see Ola giving the man of the match
award giving his huge work rate on the field.
Captain
John Collins collected the trophy on behalf of the team, amid joyous scenes.
Well done lads, and also special word of thanks to Marty Freeman who coached
this team during the season, ably assisted by John Heffernan, and their hard
work has paid dividends.

Ferrybank GAA club would like to thank everyone who supported the draw over the last six months, and for their continued support each and every year with the draw. The confined winner last month was John Counihan.
UNDER 7 HURLING:
It was another busy weekend for the Under 7 hurlers as they made the trip to De La Salle to play three games, two against the homeside, and one against Sacred Heart. With everyone playing great, Ferrybank came away with three wins. Special mention to Fionn, Matteo, Finn, Philip and Amalie who joined us from the nursery panel, and they were fantastic.
