ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Club Notes

UNDER 16 FOOTBALL:
Pride of place this week goes to the Under 16 Footballers who captured the Combined Waterford City Credit Unions Division 4 title with a 1-06 to 1-04 over a gallant Mount Sion team at Walsh Park last Sunday morning. The lads didn’t make it easy for themselves, having squandered many first-half chances, and saw their opponents making a second-half comeback, despite having two of their players sent to the line. It was only a late Aiden Humphries point that settled their nerves.
The opening exchanges saw Mount Sion began brightly, but failed to trouble the scoreboard, missing a few chances and this lifted Ferrybank as they start creating opportunities, with Jack Keogh-Moran, Reece Phelan and Trevor Madigan having scoring chances but failed to convert. Ferrybank did open the scoring after 15 mins with a Jack Keogh-Moran point, and further scores followed from Clinton and Ola had Ferrybank three points ahead, before Mount Sion replied with a point of their own. Points were exchanged on the stroke of half-time with Trevor Madigan scoring to ensure Ferrybank led by 0-4 to 0-2 at the break.
Mount Sion reduced the gap to one and the game was turned on its head when Reece Phelan drove into the Mount Sion area and squared the pass to Clinton Akachukwu who dispatched the ball to the net. This was quickly followed by a Jack Keogh-Moran point and at this stage Ferrybank were in the driving seat. However, credit to Mount Sion, as they refused to give up and replied with a point. Straight from the kick out, Mount Sion took advantage of some hesitancy in the Ferrybank defence, and the ball ended up in the net to set up a nervy finish.
Ferrybank had chances to kill off the game and with Mount Sion missing a late free to tie up the game, Aiden Humphries kicked a fine score to seal a great win for the team. Captain Glen Power skippering the side in place of the injured James O' Meara collected the trophy on behalf of the team. Well done lads and credit to MJ, Tommy, Nicky, John Heff and Marty for managing the side throughout this campaign.
