GAA NOTES

UNDER 12 FOOTBALL: Pride of place this week goes to the under 12 Footballers who captured the city league crown on Friday night after defeating St Saviours in Ballybeg. The homeside started the brighter, and were ahead with some well taken points. Ferrybank began to win some vital possession around the midfield area, giving the half forward line to score some well taken goals, ensuring a comfortable lead at half time. St Saviours came a lot more into it in the second half, and they began to get on top, but the Ferrybank defence held firm, withstanding wave after wave of attack, and held on for a great win. We would like to thank all the Parents who came along on the night and supported the boys.

UNDER 21 HURLING: The Under 21 hurlers qualified for the semi finals with a hard fought win over a gallant Portlaw team in Ferrybank on Saturday afternoon winning on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-16. Ferrybank dominated the first half, and only lead by five points at the break, and had to work a lot harder in the second half to fend of the Portlaw challenge. The home side made an excellent start to the game with 1-4 on the board in the opening minutes with points from Mark O' Brien(2), John Ahern, David Atkins, and a goal from Oisin MacCathmhaoil, when his shot from long range sailed over the Portlaw goalie and into the net.  Portlaw kept in touch with some pointed frees, but Ferrybank kept the scoreboard ticking over when they attacked, and further points from Jack Wicks, John Ahern(3), Oisin MacCathmhaoil had Ferrybank in a strong position coming up to half time. Two pointed frees from Portlaw reduced the gap to 1-09 to 0-07 at the break. Points were exchanged early in the second half with two from Mark O' Brien, but Ferrybank started to conceed a lot of  frees enabling Portlaw to reduce the gap to one point midway through the second half. Ferrybank had to dig deep and they showed it over the next five minutes with four unanswered points with three from Mark O' Brien and Damien Ahern chipping in. Credit to Portlaw as they kept battling away but the Ferrybank defence held firm ensuring the goal remained in tact and two more points from Mark ensured a deserved win for Ferrybank. The team now go onto the semi finals where they will meet Tramore in the next couple of weeks. TEAM: John Brown, Paul Carew, Seamus Burtchaell, Alex Kinsella, MJ Sutton, Damien Ahern, Stephen Quinn, Luke Flynn, Mark O' Brien(-8), Jeff Lawless, Oisin MacCathmhaoil (1-1), Eoin Buggy, Jack Wicks(-1), David Atkins(-1) John Ahen(-4), Tiernan Morrissey, William Tyler.

GAA NOTES:

MINOR B CAMOIGE:  Ferrybanks  Minor Camoige team were on the wrong end of the result in Todays County Minor B final at Fraher field by a powerful Lismore  display on the day. While the grading system wasnt kind to Ferrybank, it was still a fine achievment for the Girls to reach the county final two years in a row, winning last year. Despite the gulf between the two teams, credit has to be given to the village girls for competing over the sixty minutes, and the last three attacks in the game were from Ferrybank. Final score Ferrybank 7-12 Lismore 0-1. TEAM: Sinead Russell, Jane Myers, Aisling Heffernan, Bronagh Power, Stacey Roche, Iona Heffernan, Grainne Heffernan, Deirdre Heffernan, Lydia Grant (Capt), Brid Roche, Niamh Ahearne, Roisin Oates, Clodagh Whelan, Aislinn O' Keeffe, Aoife O' Byrne, Clare Burtchaell.

UNDER 21 HURLING: Ferrybanks Under 21 hurlers will play Portlaw in the Quarter finals of the Championship in Ferrybank next Saturday October 11th at 3pm. Your support will be appreciated on the night.

GAA NOTES

UNDER 8 HURLING: Please note that under 8 Hurling training has a new starting time each Saturday morning at 11:15am with Niall Mackey starting from tomorrow Sat 27th Sept.

JUNIOR HURLING: Best of luck to the Junior Hurlers who play Eirns Own in the semi finals this coming Sunday Sept 28th at 2pm in Walsh Park, where your support will be appreciated on the day.

UNDER 11 FOOTBALL: We had two games in a busy week for the lads. First up was against a young Butlerstown side, in which Ferrybank started brightly, and took an early lead, and never looked back from their, and they proved to be a little stronger than Butlerstown through out the match, but credit to this young Butlerstown team who never gave up and battled to the end. Next up was a home game against Ballyduff Lower, on what was a lovely evening for the game, this turned out to be a right humdinger from the off. The game started evenly enough, with both sides playing some good free flowing football, in which both goalkeepers were called into action making some fine saves. Ferrybank hit the front with a point, which was then followed by a goal, but just before half time, Ballyduff replied with a goal to reduce the deficit to a point at the break. Ballyduff started the second half with the upper hand a scored another goal. To Ferrybanks credit, they fought their way back into the game, with a well taken goal, which put them back into the lead, a lead they never relinquished, and a third goal arrived, when a shot came back of the crossbar, was deflected back into the net to seal the win. Credit to both teams for providing the crowd with a fine game of Football. Thnaks to all who came along and supported the team on the night.

DEISE DRAW: We had two winners in the September Deise draw which took place in Abbeyside. Congratulations to Ruth Howard who won €300 and also to Paddy Ahearne who won €100. Many thanks to all who purchased tickets. Next draw will take place on Friday October 31st in Mt Sion Gaa centre. The clob confined winner for August was Sean Carroll.

U10 Hurling

Ferrybank U10s, still on a high after their recent victories in Limerick, approached this game with confidence but sadly it wasn't our night.
The first-half  was a very close affair and indeed we soared ahead at one point with a succession of goals but this lead was quickly thwarted in the second-half.
Ballygunner came out all guns blazing and crucified the tiring Ferrybank side.
Ballyunner clinched the victory but credit to  both teams for the manner in which they played the game.
Under 10 training 7pm Tuesday and 6:30pm Fridays.

U9 Hurling Report

Our U9 hurlers played Mount Sion on Saturday. The lads played a fiercely contested game, but succumbed to our city neighbours. Both teams provided a feast of hurling and displayed some great skills.
Most of the Ferrybank side was made up of our U8 team, so they did exceptionally well in  the circumstances.
Well done Jay, Joe, Calumn, Paddy, Izaak, Shane P, Mattie, Shane E, Caolan, Kyle , Joy, Michael, Fionn and Adam.
