Juvenile Training Times & Contact Numbers

The Kids are back to school now and what better way to get some exercise, meet new friends & have some fun than checking out your local GAA club.
All are welcome.
It doesn’t matter if your child hasn’t played gaelic games before as our coaching sessions place the emphasis on fun.  So come along if only for a look to see what good work is being done right on your door step.

Practical Coaching Course in the West Waterford / East Cork and South Tpperary on Sunday Feb 8th
Just before all the juveniles in the club start back training, Premier Sports College are holding a wonderful and exciting one day course in Ballymacarbery - 10 miles south of Clonmel on Sunday 8th Feb.

COACHING FITNESS & SKILLS TO CHILDREN - U/6 TO U/12

TIME:         10.00 to 16.00
FEE            €50 per coach - Pay on the day but book immediately
COURSE:   Coaching Fitness and Skills to 6 to 12 year olds

AIM:           The course is aimed at coaches and paraents working with 6 to 12 years olds and to primary school teachers


COURSE CONTENT:
Lecture 1 – 30 minutes

Examines the development background of Under 6 and Under 8 player. It looks at how they learn skills and movement patterns and ensures that coaches understands what best helps them develop as players.
 
Practical Workshop 1 – Skills – 75 minutes
This workshop highlights how skills are coached to Under 6 and Under 8 players using hurling skills as the basis of the skill learning process. It highlights 6 to 10 hurling skills and shows how the skill learning progression is developed
 
Practical Workshop 2 – General Movment Skills – 45 minutes
This workshop demonstrates how best to develop Fundamental Motor Skills for the athletes and players in one’s care. It looks at the theory and practice of FMS coaching and learning.
 
Lecture 2 – 30 Minutes
Examines the background and development of U10 & U12 Children as sports people. It ensures coaches know what children of this age group are capable of learning and how hard they can be pushed as well as knowing the limitations in training they bring to training.
 
Practical Workshop 3 – Skills – 75 minutes
This workshop highlights how skills are coached to Under 10 and Under 12 using hurling skills as the basis of the skill learning process. It highlights 6 to 10 hurling skills and shows how the skill learning progression is developed
 
Practical Workshop 4 - Functional Skills – 45 minutes
Examines the importance of functional development for young players and include exercises to develop their ability to improve how their body functions correctly and more efficiently for sport
 
Lecture 4 – 45 Minutes
This lectures is devoted to understanding the theory and practice of speed and agility development in first Window of Speed Development. Some practical work will be included in this lecture
Workshop 4 demonstrates loads of exercises which can be used with children of all age groups to make them faster. It looks at a range of drills to develop speed and agility at U/6, U8, u10 and U12.

U10/11 will resume on Tuesday February 3rd at 7pm.

There will be two training session per week as follows:
- Tuesday 7pm
- Friday 7pm

Full numbers required. First matches are on February 20th.

AWARDS 1 TRAINING COURSE

AWARDS 1 TRAINING COURSE:
Waterford Coaching & Games Development will be running an Award 1 Child Course in February & March 2015. Listed below is the criteria for those who wish to take part in the course including the dates of the course. As of now, the venue is TBC it will depend on where the majority of the numbers who wish to participate are from but all who wish to participate will have this information in plenty of time.
Criteria
·         Have Foundation Level Course completed
·         Have GAA Garda Vetting completed
·         Have ISC/GAA Child Protection Awareness Workshop completed.
·         Be currently active as a coach or have at least 1 year experience as a coach.
·         Full attendance on all nights is compulsory to complete course and receive certification

Mon 16th Feb 7pm-10pm                                             Thur 19th Feb 7pm-10pm
Mon 23rd Feb 7pm-10pm                                             Thur 26th Feb 7pm-10pm

Christmas Party and Santa

CHRISTMAS PARTY:
Ferrybank GAA & Camogie club are hosting the annual Ferrybank Children’s Party for Under 6,8,10 & 12 boys & girls this coming Sunday December 14th from 1:30pm to 3pm in the Parish Hall. Santa Claus will be coming on the day for a meet and greet for all the children. There will be numerous activities on the day, and to top it off, there will be a massive Christmas raffle taking place, with over 30 prizes to be won. U13 Carrigeen Astro-Turf Tournament

The semi-finals fixture list for the U13 Carrigeen astro-turf tournament is as follows:

Sunday 14th December

If the game ends in a draw after full-time there will be extra time 5 mins per half. If teams are still level after extra time, then there will be golden score (either point or goal) to determine the winner. Winners will go forward to play in the finals the following weekend.

GAA NOTES

DEISE DRAW: We had no luck in the November Deise draw which took place last Friday night in Eirns Own. Thanks to all who purchased tickets on the night. One remaining draw, taking place in December.

DECEMBER SERIES: Waterford Senior Hurlers are playing 3 challenge games this month, and if you would like to see all three games for only €10, please contact Pat O' Meara 087-2108890 by 6pm this coming Thursday Dec 4th. First game is Sunday 7th Dec in Walsh Park at 2pm, against Wexford, followed by Dublin on Dec 12th in Carriganore at 8pm, with Clare visiting Fraher field on Wednesday Dec 17th at 7:30pm.
