Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

ANGELA BURNS MEMORIAL 10K FUN RUN/WALK:
Over 400 people turned out last Sunday morning for the Angela Burns Memorial 10K Fun Run/Walk. In glorious weather conditions, the men’s race was won by Brian Murphy in a time of 33:46, with Owen Whelan second, and Shane Curtin third. In the ladies race Elaine O' Donovan retained her title winning in a time of 41:28, with Aisling Feguson second, while the Under 12 race went to  Cian Kavanagh. Well done to all.
A special words of thanks to all who helped out the organising committee, stewards, gardai, first aiders, physios, people to brought food on the day and the Ladies committee who helped out with the food and ensured everyone was well fed. Fintan Walsh for his excellent commentary throughout the morning, to all the people who turned up and participated on the day, and last but not least to the Burns family for their kind donation towards the race.

UNDER 10 HURLING:
Our Under 10 hurlers played St. Pats, Butlerstown, Sacred Heart in the A blitz at Carraiganore. Despite having only three players of the age, supplemented by the Under 8 & 9, Ferrybank secured an early lead and indeed young Fionn (Under 8 player) struck goal with a fine goal that saw us take an early lead in the opening game against St. Pats. St. Pats launched a sustained attack in the second half, taking some fine scores, and indeed they riddled the Ferrybank defence and goal, where young Conor made many a miraculous save. Even though St. Pats continued to be a thorn in our side, we maintained the lead in the end.
The second game against Butlerstown proved a one sided affair, and we emerged victors. The final game against Sacred Heart really tested the Ferrybank defence, but Paddy, Izaak, Joe and Shane kept them at bay. Ferrybank dominated the second half, with Michael, Caolan and Kyle in midfield supplying Daniel, Jay and Malachy who all took some fine scores.
Well done lads three wins from three is a great result.
TEAM: Shane Egan, Izaak Richards, Joe Carter, Malachy Carter, Kyle Daly, Conor Daly, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Paddy Mackey, Jay Bagge, Fionn McGarrity, Daniel Lynch, Michael McLaurence.

Our Under 8 hurlers played in a hurling blitz in Carriganore last Saturday. We were short a few number on the day, so a number of the Under 7s turned out for us. All of the games were played with great determination, and some excellent hurling skills were on hand for all to see. Thanks to Ballyduff for loaning us two players for the first half of the game, and the second half it was five against seven, with the lads digging deep, covering every blade of grass and in the end were victorious. The lads defeated St. Pats, Roanmore, Ballyduff, St. Mollerans, while they drew with Clonea.
