Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

UNDER 11 HURLING:
Ferrybank played St. Marys last Tuesday night in round four of the City League. Continuing on their recent spate of good form, Ferrybank quickly took the lead, but St. Marys put up a fine fight in the opening half.
In the second-half, Ferrybank assumed command of the game and ran out good winners, maintaining their unbeaten record in the City League.
Well done to both teams, and thanks to St. Marys for travelling over.
TEAM: Joe Carter, Shane Egan, Izaak Richards, Shane Purcell, Mati Tomczuk, Daniel Griffin, Sean Heffernan, Ruaidhri McGarrity, Alex Power, Odhran Power, Daniel Walsh, Jake Butler, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Jamie Sutton.

UNDER 12 HURLING:
The Under 12s made the trip to play Tramore last Thursday night. Ferrybank started off well, with Eddie Daly and Shane Purcell finding the net early on, which settled the team down. As the game ebbed and flowed, Tramore gave as good as they got, but they couldn’t find the break through, and let Ferrybank off the hook on a number of occasions.
Into the second-half, Ferrybank upped the tempo and pulled away in the end. The score line didn’t reflect what happened on the field of play, and could have been different if Tramore had a bit of luck on the night. Next game is home to Sacred Heart.

GOLF CLASSIC:
The seventh annual Gerry Ryan memorial golf classic will take place of Friday June 12th at the Waterford Golf club. It’s a three person team with entry fee of €25 per person, with members of Waterford Golf club €20 and Student/Unwaged €10. Prize given afterwards will be in the Mandarin Palace.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior hurlers were well beaten by a more slicker De La Salle side in their third game in the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition in Ferrybank last Friday night.
Right from the start, DLS were in complete control, dominating all areas and scored two quick goals in succession leaving Ferrybank a mountain to climb. Despite points from Ciaran Doyle and Damien Walsh, Ferrybank struggled and further DLS points before half-time ensured they had a 2-09 to 0-05 lead at the break.
Any chance of a comeback in the second-half was quickly diminished, as DLS scored two more goals and despite scores from Greg Murphy, Marty Freeman, Ciaran Doyle and a goal from Damien Walsh, it was all in vain as DLS ran out 4-12 to 1-10 winners.
Next up for the Juniors is a trip to Butlerstown next Friday night at 7pm where an improved performance will be needed.
TEAM: John Brown, Paul Carew, Paul Martin, Cian MacCathmhaoil, Hughie O' Neill, Damien Walsh (1-01), Alex Kinsella, James Murphy, Pat O' Neill, Ciaran Doyle (0-06), Jason Hennessey, Jeff Lawless, Alex Power, Greg Murphy(0-02), Jamie Diggins, Stephen Quinn, Marty Freeman(0-01), Oran MacCathmhaoil, Tommy Burtchaell.

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:
We played Clan Na Gael in our latest game of the City League on Monday night in Ferrybank, in what was a must win game if we had any hope of qualifying for the knockout stages. We found it hard to cope in the opening exchanges, facing a very stiff breeze, where Clan Na Gael took full advantage and raced into the lead, but Ferrybank hung in there and pegged back the lead to two points at half-time.
Ferrybank started the second-half well and played some excellent football, and hit the net twice in a couple of minutes to take the lead. Clan Na Gael threw everything at Ferrybank, but the defence held firm and ran out three point winners.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING LEAGUE:
The Intermediate hurlers travelled to Clonea last Saturday night in game two of the White’s of Ballymacaw sponsored league. Despite been a number of players short, Ferrybank had to battle hard in the opening half, as Clonea enjoyed the majority of possession, but Ferrybank’s defence held firm and only trailed by three points coming up to half-time. However, Clonea struck for a goal to lead by six at the break.
In the second-half, Clonea continued to be on top, and were stronger in most areas and hard as Ferrybank tried, Clonea kept the scoreboard ticking over, running out worthy winners on the night on a score line of 1-18 to 0-10.
TEAM: Conor Hogan, Nicky Ryan, Damien Ahern, David Atkins, Graham Coady, Andrew Heffernan, Shane Sullivan, Phil Blake, Seamus Burtchaell, Cormac O' Driscoll, Oisin MacCathmhaoil, Paul Martin, Tommy Carew, Luke Flynn, Cian MacCathmhaoil, Paul Carew, Jeff Lawless.

Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate hurlers recorded their second win in this year’s Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition, with a hard fought win over a strong De La Salle side in Walsh Park on Saturday last. Aided by the breeze in the opening half, Ferrybank opened with points from Cormac O' Driscoll, Oisin MacCathmhaoil, Mark O' Brien and Eoin O' Neill to lead by 0-04 to 0-02 midway through the opening half.
Ferrybank got their opening goal son after when MJ Sutton off loaded the ball to Oisin MacCathmhaoil who drilled the ball to the back of the net for a fine goal. Further points from Eoin O' Neill, Cormac O' Driscoll and MJ ensured Ferrybank led 1-10 to 0-07 at the break.
Playing against the breeze in the second half, DLS came more into the game, putting pressure on the defence, but credit to the lads, they held firm, not conceding any goals and despite DLS getting within two points, Ferrybank got on top in the final ten minutes and points from Eoin O' Neill & Mark O' Brien extended the lead.
In the closing minutes Oisin MacCathmhaoil capped a good display with his second goal shooting home from close range to ensure a 2-15 to 0-13 win. A good all round display from the team, and they can look forward with confidence for their next championship game against St. Mollerans in a couple of weeks’ time.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior Hurlers gained their first win of this year’s championship with a 2-11 to 2-05 win over St. Mollerans last Friday night. Early points were exchanged with Alex Power and Ciaran Doyle scoring for Ferrybank. Ferrybank then hit a purple patch in the opening half with goals in as many minutes from Martin Freeman and a Kieran Doyle penalty. Greg Murphy contributed through scoring some fine points, Ferrybank built up a seven point lead coming up to half time, but St. Mollerans got a life line with a soft goal.
Mollerans reduced the gap to three points early in the second-half, but Ferrybank created scoring chances in which the Murphy brothers scored points and the excellent Pat O' Neill also contributed to the scoreboard, leaving Ferrybank running out comfortable winners in the end.
A good win for the team, despite been short a couple of players, and next up for the Juniors is a home game against De La Salle this coming Friday May 22nd May at 7;30pm. TEAM: Jono Brown, Paul Carew, Cian MacCathmhaoil, Oran MacCathmhaoil, Hughie O' Neill, Pat O' Neill(0-01), Dean Phelan, Jeff Lawless, James Murphy(0-01), Ciaran Doyle (1-04), Jason Hennessey, Jamie DIggins, Martin Freeman(1-00), Greg Murphy(0-04), Alex Power(0-01), Tommy Burtchaell.
