Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

EXAMINATION TIME:
It’s hard to believe it’s that time of the year again, with the Junior and Leaving cert exams getting underway on Wednesday. On behalf of Ferrybank GAA club, we would like to wish all everyone the very best of luck.

UNDER 11 HURLING:
The stakes were high on Friday night for the Ferrybank Under 11 hurlers in their fifth match of the City League against Ballygunner and yet again our lads did not disappoint.
Playing at home and spurned on by the great support, Ferrybank took an early lead. The game was very close and at half-time we led by 2 points.
Ballygunner came out all guns blazing in the second-half and rattled our defences but the solid defence and excellent goalkeeping from young Caolan kept them at bay.
Ferrybank emerged the victors in a very close game. Well done to both teams.

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:

Ferrybank played St. Marys last Tuesday night in round four of the City League. Continuing on their recent spate of good form, Ferrybank quickly took the lead, but St. Marys put up a fine fight in the opening half.
In the second-half, Ferrybank assumed command of the game and ran out good winners, maintaining their unbeaten record in the City League.
Well done to both teams, and thanks to St. Marys for travelling over.

UNDER 12 HURLING:
The Under 12s made the trip to play Tramore last Thursday night. Ferrybank started off well, with Eddie Daly and Shane Purcell finding the net early on, which settled the team down. As the game ebbed and flowed, Tramore gave as good as they got, but they couldn’t find the break through, and let Ferrybank off the hook on a number of occasions.
Into the second-half, Ferrybank upped the tempo and pulled away in the end. The score line didn’t reflect what happened on the field of play, and could have been different if Tramore had a bit of luck on the night. Next game is home to Sacred Heart.

GOLF CLASSIC:
The seventh annual Gerry Ryan memorial golf classic will take place of Friday June 12th at the Waterford Golf club. It’s a three person team with entry fee of €25 per person, with members of Waterford Golf club €20 and Student/Unwaged €10. Prize given afterwards will be in the Mandarin Palace.
The tee timesheet is now open and you can contact Andy Ryan on 086-3938993, but be quick as the timesheet is filling up fast, so get your preferred time in Andy ASAP to avoid disappointment.
If you wish to support the club in this classic, and/or would like you can also sponsor a tee box for €20, contact any of the committee.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior hurlers were well beaten by a more slicker De La Salle side in their third game in the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition in Ferrybank last Friday night.
Right from the start, DLS were in complete control, dominating all areas and scored two quick goals in succession leaving Ferrybank a mountain to climb. Despite points from Ciaran Doyle and Damien Walsh, Ferrybank struggled and further DLS points before half-time ensured they had a 2-09 to 0-05 lead at the break.
Any chance of a comeback in the second-half was quickly diminished, as DLS scored two more goals and despite scores from Greg Murphy, Marty Freeman, Ciaran Doyle and a goal from Damien Walsh, it was all in vain as DLS ran out 4-12 to 1-10 winners.
Next up for the Juniors is a trip to Butlerstown next Friday night at 7pm where an improved performance will be needed.
TEAM: John Brown, Paul Carew, Paul Martin, Cian MacCathmhaoil, Hughie O' Neill, Damien Walsh (1-01), Alex Kinsella, James Murphy, Pat O' Neill, Ciaran Doyle (0-06), Jason Hennessey, Jeff Lawless, Alex Power, Greg Murphy(0-02), Jamie Diggins, Stephen Quinn, Marty Freeman(0-01), Oran MacCathmhaoil, Tommy Burtchaell.

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:
We played Clan Na Gael in our latest game of the City League on Monday night in Ferrybank, in what was a must win game if we had any hope of qualifying for the knockout stages. We found it hard to cope in the opening exchanges, facing a very stiff breeze, where Clan Na Gael took full advantage and raced into the lead, but Ferrybank hung in there and pegged back the lead to two points at half-time.
Ferrybank started the second-half well and played some excellent football, and hit the net twice in a couple of minutes to take the lead. Clan Na Gael threw everything at Ferrybank, but the defence held firm and ran out three point winners.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING LEAGUE:
The Intermediate hurlers travelled to Clonea last Saturday night in game two of the White’s of Ballymacaw sponsored league. Despite been a number of players short, Ferrybank had to battle hard in the opening half, as Clonea enjoyed the majority of possession, but Ferrybank’s defence held firm and only trailed by three points coming up to half-time. However, Clonea struck for a goal to lead by six at the break.
In the second-half, Clonea continued to be on top, and were stronger in most areas and hard as Ferrybank tried, Clonea kept the scoreboard ticking over, running out worthy winners on the night on a score line of 1-18 to 0-10.
TEAM: Conor Hogan, Nicky Ryan, Damien Ahern, David Atkins, Graham Coady, Andrew Heffernan, Shane Sullivan, Phil Blake, Seamus Burtchaell, Cormac O' Driscoll, Oisin MacCathmhaoil, Paul Martin, Tommy Carew, Luke Flynn, Cian MacCathmhaoil, Paul Carew, Jeff Lawless.
