Ferrybank GAA - Club Notes

Under 11 Hurling:
The under 11 hurlers  playing in their third last game of the City League recorded a very good win over St. Saviours in Ferrybank last Monday week. St. Saviours started very strong and dominated the early play and pressed hard on the Ferrybank goal to lead 1-03 to 0-02 points at half-time.
Ferrybank came out a different team in the second-half and started to dominate the play as the second half progressed and scoring 3-03, with the defence holding Saviours to one point.
Final score Ferrybank 3-05 St Saviours 1-04. Thanks to St Saviours for the sporting game.

Last Fridays U11 City League game against Butlerstown was call off and we received a walk over. Instead the team travelled to Kill to play St. Marys in a challenge game and with all players getting game time. Next game is against St. Mollerans in Carrickbeg Friday July 12th. With Ferrybank topping the table with 15 points this is a crucial game and your support with be greatly help the boys.

Under 10 Hurling:
Our lads took part in the Carraiganore Blitz on Saturday morning last. The team showed great heart and commitment in all three games. The first game was against Sacred Heart, with the game being very even until the end when we took our goal chances and won the game. Next up was a strong Abbeyside team, Abbeyside played against a strong win in the first half and led by three goals at half-time.
Ferrybank came out strong in the second-half, but some strong Abbeyside defending keep our  lads at bay with Abbeyside taking the spoils in this one.
Last game was against Na Gael we took some nice scores in the first-half and defended well in the second half to secure a win. Special mention for Under 8s Fionn and Malachy who were called up at short notice both played well.
Joe Carter,Shane Egan, Shane Purcell,Mattie Tomczuk,Caolain Mac Cathmhaoil,Paddy Mackey, Michael Karankov. Fionn McGarrity and Malachy Carter.

UNDER 8 HURLING:
Our Under 8 hurlers played in a hurling blitz in Gracedieu last Monday night. The opening game was a fiercely contested game against Sacred Heart, with the lads shooting a number of wides in the opening half. A much improved second-half, saw us run out worthy winners.
Next up was De La Salle, and it was another tough game, with Ferrybank playing a good combination of ground hurling. De La Salle deployed the swarm technique on our goal, and with the lads beginning to struggle to clear the ball, the homeside ran out 3-0 to 1-0 on the night.
TEAM: Conor Haley, Danny Donnelly, John Karankov, Luke Sutton, Finn McGarrity, Ryan Hughes, Evan Mullaly, Malachy Carter, Rory Simpson, Jack Hoban, Jacob Richards, and a special mention to Jacob who celebrated his 7th Birthday on the night. Happy Birthday Jacob.

UNDER 13 HURLING: Our Under 13 hurlers played Ballygunner in the first round of the league on Monday night. Ferrybank battled well in the opening half, and saw plenty of the ball, but we couldn’t convert the scores, and going into the half-time break found ourselves two points down.
Ballygunner started the second-half, and hit a couple of goals, which left the lads with a lot to do, and the homeside side ran out worthy winners on the night. Next up is a home game against St. Mollerans on July 11th.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate hurlers drew with St. Mollerans in their latest game in the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition in Walsh Park last Saturday evening. Despite leading for long periods in the game, St. Mollerans scored two goals in the closing minutes to secure the draw.
Playing against the breeze in the opening half, Ferrybank lead by 0-08 to 0-03 with points from MJ Sutton, Oisin MacCathmhaoil, Eoin O' Neill and Mark O' Brien, Ferrybank should have been further ahead but missed a couple of good goal chances that went a begging.
The second-half was a very scrappy affair, with the lads finding it hard to get any fluent rhythm going, conceding too many frees, allowing St. Mollerans to reduce the gap, but points from Eoin O' Neill and MJ Sutton had Ferrybank leading by four entering the closing minutes, but a St. Mollerans goal reduce the gap to one.
Two quick points from Philly and Sparky extended the gap to three, and with time almost up, one last attack from St. Mollerans saw them score a goal to give them a draw.
Overall it was a disappointing display from the team, with too many errors costing them dearly, and they must quickly turn their attention to next Saturday July 4th at against Ballygunner.

The Ferrybank Under 7 hurlers took part in the De La Salle blitz last Monday evening. The fine weather brought out the best in the young Ferrybank stars, and in the opening game, the lads soared ahead and battered the De La Salle defence. In the second game, it was a much tougher affair, but the lads came out winners in the end. Well done to all the players, thanks to the parents for the massive support, and to De La Salle for hosting the games.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior hurlers were defeated by Erins Own in their latest game in the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition in Poleberry last Friday night. Going into the game, Ferrybank were short a number of players, but the lads hung in there in the opening half, only trailing by three points. However, Erins Own pulled away in the second, building up a big lead, and despite a late rally including a goal from Ciaran Doyle, it was all in vain, as Erins Own ran out 2-13 to 1-11 winners. Next up for the Juniors is a home game against St Saviours on Friday July 3rd at 7:30pm.
