U10 Hurling Report

Ferrybank U10 hurlers played in a blitz on Saturday 18th July in Carriganore. Considering we had only three U10 players and the remainder were U9s, the lads did extremely well.
Ferrybank, with the wind at our backs, soared ahead in the first match against St. Patrick’s. The second-half saw St. Patrick’s come back into it but the damage was done.
The second match against Na Gael, played out in a similar vein, and Ferrybank emerged victors again.
The final match against our city rivals, Mount Sion, proved a much tougher affair; the lads, tired from the previous games, visibly slowed down and allowed the bigger and stronger opponents to take the lead.
Some fine hurling on display and well done to all the lads.

Team: Adam Aspel, Paddy Mackey, Conor Daly, Kyle Daly, Izzaak Richards, Shane Purcell, Caolán MacCathmaoil, Jay Bagge, Joe Carter.

Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate hurlers suffered a tough defeat to Erin’s Own in their latest Championship game in Mount Sion last Friday night on a score line of 2-13 to 0-14. With the sides level entering injury time, Erin’s Own scored 1-02 to claim the points.
There wasn’t a lot to choose between the sides in the opening half, with the teams level on a couple of occasions. Good scores from John Ahern, MJ Sutton, Mark O' Brien and Eoin O’ Neill, combined with the Ferrybank defence holding firm, ensured the lads held a narrow one point lead at the break.
An early point from MJ extended the lead, but Erin’s Own scored a crucial goal to take the lead. Ferrybank battled back and regained the advantage, with Eoin O' Neill and Mark O' Brien scoring points, but crucially, Ferrybank missed a couple of scores to extend the lead, and then conceded some poor frees, which were punished by Erin’s Own to keep them in the hunt, and with the sides level, another free saw Erin’s Own go head. With time almost up, a second goal from Erin’s Own sealed the win. This was a tough defeat for the team, but they will have to dust themselves down and learn from this, preparation must now start for the quarter finals in three weeks’ time, with the opponents yet to be confirmed.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Junior hurlers were defeated by Portlaw in their latest game last Friday night on a scoreline of 3-12 to 0-12. Goals win matches and that was the case in the game as Portlaw struck twice in the opening half to lead by 2-07 to 0-07 at the break.
Any chance of a comeback by Ferrybank in the second-half was quickly dashed as a third Portlaw goal put daylight between the sides, and tried as they did, Ferrybank didnt get chances to get back into the game. Next up for the Juniors is a trip to play Dunhill next Thursday, July 16th at 7:30pm.
