Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

UNDER 13 HURLING:
Our Under 13 Hurlers played Sacred Heart in Cleaboy last Friday for a place in the semi-finals of the Eastern Championship. The team started off well when Shane Oates latched onto a pass and slotted the ball into the net. Shane quickly added a second minutes later, when he tapped home from close range, and this was followed by a John Collins point, which gave Ferrybank a healthy half-time lead.
The second-half was a much tighter affair and Sacred Heart got back into the game with a goal and a point in quick succession, but the response was excellent from the team, with Shane Bagge pointing and a third goal from Eddie Daly settled the issue, resulting in Ferrybank running out 4-04 to 1-01 winners.
Next up is a semi-final clash against St. Mollerans this Wednesday night in Ferrybank.
TEAM: Aaron Ahearne, Reece Phelan, Odhran Power, Glen Power, James O' Meara Fortune, Shane Bagge, Eddie Daly, Shane Oates, Ola Akinjewe, John Collins, Ciaran Hondanu, Pawel Tomczuk, Ruaidhri McGarrity, Jordan McEvoy, Jack Keogh Moran.

Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

ALL IRELAND CHAMPION - COUNTY DUTY:
It was a busy weekend for some of our underage stars representing the County, and congratulations to Grainne Heffernan and the Waterford Under 16 Camogie team that defeated Dublin in the All Ireland Final in Nenagh on Sunday. Lets hope this is the first of a Heffernan sister double, as Grainne’s sister Iona will be involved in the All Ireland Intermediate Camogie final in Croke Park in September.
Also well done to Eimhin Burns and Ryan Tierney who were involved with the Waterford Under 14 Hurling team that played in the Tony Forristal last Saturday, and also Neil O’ Sullivan who was involved with the Waterford Under 15 Hurlers that played in the Carrigahoun tournament in Cork.

ALL IRELAND INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE FINAL:
Ferrybank Camogie club are organising a Bus to the All-Ireland Liberty Insurance Intermediate Camogie final in which Waterford play Kildare on September 13th at 2pm. If interested in travelling, please contact, Debbie Boden 087-9385162.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate hurlers were defeated in the quarter-finals of the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition last Saturday afternoon, going down to Clonea after extra-time on a scoreline of 3-15 to 1-18.
Ferrybank played well in the opening half, showing great hunger and determination, and points from Robbie Carew, Eoin O' Neill, Phil Blake, Cormac O' Driscoll and Mark O' Brien ensured a six point lead for Ferrybank at half-time.
Clonea, aided with the breeze in the second-half, came more into the game and reduced the gap to a point, but Ferrybank replied when John Ahern latched onto a threw ball and planted the sliothar into the back of the net. This gave Ferrybank confidence, but crucially hit some bad wides during the half to further extend their lead.
Points from Mark O' Brien and Oisin MacCathmhaoil kept Ferrybank ahead, and entering the closing minutes, a second Clonea goal reduced the gap, and deep into injury time, a Clonea '65 levelled it up.
Into extra-time, Ferrybank held a narrow one point lead at the end of the first period, and extended it to three in the second period, but once Clonea dug deep, and three quick points levelled it up, and with time almost up, a Clonea shot struck the post, came back and the ball ended up in the Ferrybank net.
This was a tough defeat for the team, and to be fair didn’t deserve to lose, they gave it their all on the day, and deserved another game, but that’s sport, and hopefully they will come back next year more determined as they will have learned a lot.
A special word of thanks to Doxer, Marty, Dom, Padraig, Decky, Maxi, Sarah, Tony and Andy for all their help and preparing team during the campaign, they left no stone unturned with the team, and gave it everything.

UNDER 13 HURLING:
Our Under 13 hurlers have qualified for the knockout stages of the City League. After a slow start in the league, along with some unfortunate injuries along the way, we lost out to Ballygunner and St. Mollerans, but the lads got back on track with good wins over Sacred Heart and St. Saviours.
Our final game in the group was against Ballyduff Lower, and following a cracking game of hurling, the lads lost out narrowly on a scoreline of 5-03 to 3-05. We now play Sacred Heart in the play-offs.

City League U11 Gala Day:
The City League U11 gala day will take place on Saturday 19th September in Walsh Park or Carriaganore (tbc). As Ferrybank Under 11s topped Division 3, we will be playing at this gala day, hence we need all payers for this day.

We will handing out the City League winner medals at the Ferrybank GAA Dog Night in November.
